Light a Candle - Friday ~ Finding Beauty

There are wonderful reasons why candles have been used in spiritual ceremonies since ancient times.
Their light uplifts the energy and senses of everyone who sees them and is much closer to natural sunlight than the artificial illuminations in most homes and offices.
This is one explanation for why looking at a candle is energizing, much like spending time in the bright outdoors can be.

Candlelight sparks the imagination, so stare into a flame as a focal point for medication and visualization.  You can also light candles to celebrate or commemorate something,
since they serve whatever purpose you set for them.

Today, light a candle with heartfelt intention.  As you place the flame of a match to the wick, think of your intention (such as someones health, world peace, prosperity, and so forth).  Light as many of them as you have aims, and look as each one while holding prayers for what you want.  As you extinguish the flame later, be sure to thank the candle for its support.

My mom had a tradition of lighting candles and say prayers for everyone when she went to church and especially when visiting churches on vacation.
Today, it's hard to find a church with real candles...most have automated lights with buttons.
The California Missions and the churches in Ireland have real candles.
I believe this is a beautiful tradition, and I carry it on in my mom's memory.

So nice to meet you. How iconic that we are both posting about beauty found in a candle, a church and family. Loved your post.

Lovely post. I too love real candles and there are sooo many of those out there with buttons theses days. My church - Long Island, New York, still has real candles!

I linked to you from Pink Saturday, but don't see the pink. Pehaps I got the wrong post - a great post in itself.

I'm hosting a new weekly meme starting Sunday, June 6th called "Summer Sundays" and it's all about what summer means to YOU. I hope you come and join us. My link is: http://thetablescaper.blogspot.com/

I'm new to your blog and about to go look a little deeper. The post about cherries looks very inviting.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Hi Mumzie

Our churches don't have candles - I'm thinking this is more of a Catholic tradition. But it sounds beautiful.

Stopping by for Pink Saturday!
