Flora and fauna refer to plant and wildlife, respectively. The indigenous plant and wildlife of a geographical region is often referred to as that region’s flora and fauna. Both are collective terms, referring to groups of plant or wildlife specific to a region or a time period. For example, the flora and fauna of a warm region may consist of tropical to warm-temperate vegetation and exotic species of birds.


By definition, flora is a word of Latin origin referring to Flora, the goddess of flowers. Flora can refer to a group of plants, a disquisition of a group of plants, as well as to bacteria. Flora is the root of the word floral, which means pertaining to flowers. Fauna can refer to the animal life or classification of animals of a certain region, time period, or environment. Fauna is also of Latin origin. In Roman Mythology Fauna was the sister of Faunus, a good spirit of the forest and plains.

The flora and fauna of any given region is usually explained in biological terms to include the genus and species of plant and animal life, their preferred growing or breeding habits, and their connection to one another in the environment as well. In addition to geographical groupings, environment also helps further classifications of flora and fauna. For example, aquatic flora and fauna of a region refers to the plant and animal life found in the waters in or surrounding a geographic region.

Rainbow Bridge for Calidad

Our friend Nicole lost her beautiful Peruvian horse Calidad today. After a couragous 10 day battle to live... the little filly is gone. Nicole loved her so much and was planning on showing her this coming year.  It saddens my heart to see her hurting from this loss.
Calidad was a gorgeous little three year old horse who's life was far too short.

May God give Nicole strength she needs to cope with this loss.

Rainbow Bridge 

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run, when their time on the earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next, is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play, till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care, until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met; together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past, the time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart, has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever, and then, side by side, they cross over… together.

A Little History.....

The Peruvian Paso or Peruvian Horse is a breed of light pleasure saddle horse known for its smooth ride. It is distinguished by a natural, four-beat, lateral gait called the paso llano.

Smooth-gaited horses, generally known as Palfreys, existed in the Middle Ages, and the Jennet in particular was noted for its ambling gaits. Peruvian Pasos trace their ancestry to the ambling Jennets; as well as to the Barb, which contributed strength and stamina; and to the Andalusian which added style,

conformation and action.

Horses arrived in South American during the Spanish Conquest, beginning the arrival of Pizarro in 1531. Foundation bloodstock came from Spain, Jamaica, Panama and other areas of Central America. Importations increased after 1542, when the Spanish created the Viceroyalty of New Castilla.

On February 14th while visiting Kelly in Buelton, I had the privilege of riding Fastigo one of her gorgeous champion stallions.  He has been given the nickname of  "Tigs" and I think it fits him perfectly. 

It had been some time since I had been in the saddle;

and I was a little apprehensive about just getting up onto a horse. 

However, I did it and had a wonderful time! 

 At 17 years "Tigs" is considered a senior and he is such a gentleman and is in top physical condition.  

I felt very comfortable riding him, I guess because we are both considered seniors these days.   

However, he's a fined tuned professional, and I'm sure I frustrating him a little,

 but he was very tolerant.

Thanks "Tigs"....I enjoyed the ride immensely.

Well, I feel great that I rode the horse...and as soon as the weather gets better here in Northern California,

I plan on doing some more riding.
